| Estate agent |
The Danish Commerce and Companies Agency keeps a register of the persons entitled to call themselves estate agents. To be admitted to the register, an estate agent must satisfy certain training requirements and requirements with respect to finance and the provision of guarantees.

| Estate deduction |
Deduction from the tax of a taxable estate for the estate period, cf. sections 30(2) and 72(4) of the Danish Tax on the Estates of Deceased Persons Act.

| Estate inventory |
Inventory of the estate assets, liabilities, income and expenses during the estate period and specification of the distribution of the inheritance, cf. sections 31 and 66 of the Danish Administration of the Estates of Deceased Persons Act. In a simplified administration out of court, no estate inventory is required, cf. section 35 of the Danish Administration of the Estates of Deceased Persons Act.

| Estate tax |
A tax must be paid on the inheritance and on sums insured which are paid out after a death. Beneficiaries entitled to an indefeasible portion of an estate and certain other next-of-kin pay 15%. Other beneficiaries also pay an additional tax of 25%. Before the 15% tax is calculated, a basic allowance exemption of DKK 242,400 is deducted from the inheritance. There is no basic exemption for life insurance policies or in connection with the calculation of the 25% tax. A spouse is not required to pay any estate tax.

| European Court of Human Rights |
The European Court of Human Rights is sitting in Strasbourg and is an institution under the Council of Europe. The European Court of Human Rights deals with complaints by citizens about Member States’ violation of the Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedom (ECHR) but also complaints from Member States about potential violations of ECHR by another Member State. However, to bring a matter before the European Court of Human Rights you, as a citizen, must have exhausted all possibilities of complaining in the state of violation. Furthermore, the complaint must be filed not later than six months after the last final national decision. Evidence by parties to civil actions. It is normally voluntary for a party to give evidence in a civil action, but evidence is given under penalty of the law. If a party chooses not to give evidence about a matter, this could give rise to adverse inferences in respect of the assessment of evidence.

| Extended cohabitant’s will |
According to part 13 of the Danish Inheritance Act, unmarried cohabitants may make an extended cohabitant’s will. In the will, they can determine that they wish to inherit and be inherited wholly or partly as if they were spouses. However, the rules on administration, including retaining undivided possession of the estate, will not apply on the predeceased’s death irrespective of the making of a cohabitant’s will.
