| Adoption |
Section 4 of the Danish Inheritance Act. The right of inheritance depends on when the adoption grant was issued. If the adoption grant was issued before 1 April 1923, the adopted child will inherit from its natural family and its natural family will inherit from the adopted child.
As a principal rule, the adopted child has no right to inherit from the adopter and vice versa unless it is set out in the adoption grant. ‘New legal effects’ may later have been added to the adoption grant according to the Danish 1956 Adoption Act.
Between 1 April 1923 and 1 January 1957: The adopted child (and its issue) will inherit from the adopter and vice versa (in part). The adopted child will inherit from its natural family but not from the adopter’s family. If the adopter has predeceased the adopted child, only the adopted child’s natural family will inherit from the adopted child. ‘New legal effects’ according to the 1956 Adoption Act may subsequently have been added to the adoption grant. After 1 January 1957: The adopted child ‘switches family’, i.e. the adopted child (and its issue), will inherit from the adopters and their families and vice versa. The adopted child will lose its right of inheritance from its natural family and vice versa unless the child’s right to inherit from its natural family is reserved in the grant. After 1 January 1972: The same as after 1 April 1957, except that the possibility of reserving the right of inheritance from the natural family lapsed.

| Advertisement for creditors |
An advertisement for creditors is used, for example, in connection with estates of deceased persons and insolvency estates. An advertisement is a notice inserted into the Danish Official Gazette where any creditors are requested to prove their claims in the estate within a fixed time-limit. If the claims are not proved before the end of the time-limit, the claims will, as an overriding main rule, have lapsed. However, a few claims do not lapse, e.g. claims for which security has been provided.
|
| Advertisement for creditors |
Notice in the Danish Official Gazette requesting creditors to prove their claims within eight weeks. Advertisements for creditors can be inserted for all estates subject to administration. If a creditor proves his/her claim too late he/she will forfeit his/her claim.
